[They're all about to die. She needs a laugh. Whether out of nervousness, finally cracking a bit, or amusement, she lets out a little choked chuckle that sounds more like a girlish giggle, in the end.]

[He just sighs so loudly like this is a big bother to him, but if she turns around she'll see a grin there.]

[Her voice is muffled by her other arm, bracing herself so her face isn't directly on the bed.]

[It looks something like this if she's trying to figure it out. And he just sighs.]

[He almost says something but doesn't and shakes his head as he hunches down.]

I won't, but I'd like to know, besides the obvious about John and Cortana, what's going on in yours.

[He just looks down at her and nods.]

[Turning her back to him, she stifles a sigh.]

I worry about John, whether or not he knows what he's doing. Cortana, whether or not she thinks as I do. And you. I worry about you. Us.

[He frowns for a moment and holds up his hand as he picks out things to say.]

John is a smart man, he's capable if he's lived as long as he has doing what he does. If Cortana thought as you do I doubt John would get along with her for so long. [And he just looks at her back at that last part, mulling it over.]

Nothings changed. About us. You, me.

[The Cortana comment stings. Implying, perhaps on accident, that John might find her intolerable. And that her own creation would surpass her in that department. She scowls, though he can't see it, and there's ice in her words.]

I think some things have changed. Your opinion of me, for example.

[No, just not tolerable in the long term. In short doses perhaps, but few seem to like working with her for so long. He's probably the only exception, at least from what he can tell.

But there is a sigh at that.]
